The Showroom is a contemporary art space that is committed to exploring emerging artistic practices and ideas.
Since 1984 The Showroom has supported artists at pivotal stages of their careers, often by offering them their first solo exhibition, and has provided an important platform for practices that do not fit into the commercial market place.
From 2009 onwards The Showroom will continue its focus on supporting the production of ambitious and challenging new work, and will begin to programme with increased flexibility, broadening the programme to encompass a greater emphasis on discursive and process-based practices, cross-disciplinary approaches, forms of artistic research, projects that are situated in the public realm, and collaborations on many levels.
Through these different approaches, The Showroom aims to create a site of sustained discourse surrounding ways in which we might consider our contemporary conditions, focusing on emerging practices and ideas to profile different ways of thinking and doing that are still in the process of being formulated, and open for discussion.
