NICOLA McCLELLAND - That Great Distance that Separates

By using the language of materials Nicola McClelland weaves together her own heartfelt experiences of loss and longing for homeland with those of her antecedents, and of all our forebears. Her work asks how do we make sense of the artefacts we uncover; the people to whom it mattered, who are long gone? What are the hidden meanings and how are these are reflected in our lives today?

COSMOLOGY Kathryn Brimblecombe-FoxExploring the close and far distances of the Universe

Earth maybe our home, but the Universe is our environment. Using age-old symbols, predominantly the tree-of-life, the paintings in COSMOLOGY explore the nano intimacies and the horizon-less vastness of the cosmos. New perspectives help untether notions of ‘landscape’ from Earth by embracing all distances of the Universe in a broader concept of what ‘landscape’ might be.

Paradise@ Purgatory Artspace, Melbourne

The paintings in ‘Paradise’ explore interweaving notions of paradise; the story of Adam and Eve, paradise lost through intercultural misunderstanding and environmental decay, and ideas of paradise in cosmological postulations of multiple universes ‘out there’ which imply the potential for vastness within.
