The gallery 401contemporary was founded in March 2009 in Berlin.
It presents 6-8 exhibitions a year and provides a platform for both established as well as emerging artistic positions in the international art scene. Of particular concern are exhibitions that create a dialogue – juxtapositions of the artistic practices of various generations, which introduce interesting recontextualisations and new perspectives. The group exhibition ZEROplus (2009/2010) featured representatives of the ZERO movement in dialogue with young artists who are building upon the ideas of the ZERO movement.
In February 2010, the gallery opened an additional project space in London, which continues these programmatic approaches and simultaneously expands the gallery’s sphere of activity.
