Anarch established in 2012 as an independent commissioning space. After a successful year in residence in Deptford, anarch is roaming and locating interesting spaces to provide an alternative platform for new commissions, a place that encourages collaboration, risk taking, discussion and realisation of new ideas that might otherwise be on the periphery.
Anarch’s approach (and name) takes influence from Anarchitecture, an evolving concept by Gordon Matta Clark and his peers, who actively expressed their frustrations with architecture, society and culture in 1970′s downtown NYC. The collective approach of these artists and their urgent but playful attitude to change are relevant concerns that Anarch still wishes to explore with the commissioned artists.
Anarch is led by curator and collaborator, Jude Bennett, with the aim of taking an open and supportive approach with emerging and established artists.
