Art Gallery in City of London, United Kingdom.

ATTIC is a new project and exhibition space that marks the start of a collaboration between the artists Sara Annwyl and Julia Thomas. Hosted within the charity Journeys, the top floor has been transformed in anticipation of a creative exploration of the many perspectives of mental illness and mental health.

In addition to the curation of group exhibitions, artists will also be selected to develop new works in response to particular themes such as the problematic relationship between creativity and mental illness, stigma and disclosure, the architecture of psychiatry, and the hope and expectation of neuroscience and psychiatric genetics.

Sara and Julia will be working closely with artists and with organisations such as Journeys, Mind Cymru, Cardiff University, and the Medical Research Council’s Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics in order to develop a series of thematically linked artworks, dialogues and exhibitions.

ATTIC is expected to challenge and be challenged. Its activities will be documented online.

Sara Annwyl is an artist, film-maker and curator with a particular interest in the spiritual and the psychiatric. Her practice revolves around communication and reciprocity.

Julia Thomas is an artist who works at the intersection of art, science and health with a particular interest in creative practice as a process for dialogue and meaning making.
