Notifications - Elwyn Murray

The buzz of a device, the ping of a message received, the small rush of dopamine. Shifting technologies shape our understanding of personal communication, forging new neural pathways and cultural norms in the process. Notifications is a site specific installation that explores this infrastructure of intimacy, utilising the coded visuals of our personal devices.

What We Carry with Us image

What We Carry with Us

The works for this exhibition are borne from a number of months spent as artist in residence in Tasmania, the Czech Republic and Canada since mid 2011. The works are a reflection of what I have seen and experienced whilst working at home and in other countries and comment on the environmental effects that appear to be occurring by man’s seemingly relentless lust to develop at any cost.

Sarina Lirosi FOREVERMOREMailbox 141

An exhibition of artificial flowers collected from the cemetery. At the pre-burial “viewing”, the bereaved are often confronted with the sight of their loved one in an artificially beautified state of what appears to be perpetual preservation. Artificial flowers, found in abundance in our cemeteries, ironically appear to be in a similar kind of suspended animation.

Thanks for the downgrade image

downgrade ignites global sell off... MERRYN J TREVETHAN

"The skyscrapers were beautiful. They did not seem like mere corporate shells. They were monuments to the arrogent yet philanthropic spirit of America". Patti Smith, Just Kids. These new works are borne out of weeks spent in and around New York, absorbing the city's visual overload and pulsating energy. In the month before the Occupy Wall St movement, I explored a city full of contradictions.
