Julia Robinson has been described as “delighting in the tension between the beautiful and the grotesque, the repulsive and the compulsive, the comical and the macabre”. She creates sculptures and installation works that combine traditional craft techniques, ornamental veneers and hybridised objects, with which she hopes to “lure the viewer into a world of terror, disgust and laughter”.

Robinson held her first solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia in 2004 and has since had her work shown at a number of galleries around Australia including the Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. Robinson has received grants from government arts agencies and private organisations. She currently lectures at the Adelaide Central School of Art.
