Owen Leong was born in Sydney, Australia where he completed a Master of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales. He now lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.

With a strong emphasis on experimentation and innovation, Owen Leong’s interdisciplinary art practice engages with race and gender. His sculptural, photographic and installation works are influenced by horror and science fiction films, queer theory, experimental sound and underground music, through to Asian identity traders and artists working with “autofictions”.

Leong has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally. He has held solo exhibitions at Ryan Renshaw (Brisbane), Mori Gallery (Sydney), and Room 35 (Sydney). Selected group exhibitions include Gallery Primo Alonso (London), Zendai Museum of Modern Art (Shanghai), and The Hart Centre for the Arts (Beijing). His work has been featured in Art and America (USA), Tema Celeste (Italy), BBC Online (UK), Art and Australia, Artlink and Australian Art Collector (Australia). He received an Australia Council New Work Grant in 2005. He has held residencies at Artspace, Sydney and Chinese Art Centre, Manchester. In 2008 he was an artist-in-residence at the Moya Dyring Studio, Cite International des Arts, Paris, and in 2009 he was awarded an Asialink Visual Arts Residency at Tokyo Wonder Site.
