Vipoo Srivilasa’s influences are nothing if not many and varied. He writes that his “work is developed from Thai literature and Thai traditional costumes, combined with the flamboyant costumes worn in the parades at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. I also find the shapes, colours and textures of the unique Australian coral reef extremely captivating.” With his ceramic sculpture, decorated in paint with vignettes from the artist’s life, Srivilasa delivers a subtle commentary on contemporary global culture in a uniquely disarming way; underneath the swirling mix of references he is a master of wry humour.

Vipoo Srivilasa received a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics at Rangit University in Bangkok before moving to Australia in 1999. After his arrival he obtained a Graduate Diploma of Arts from Monash University, Melbourne as well as a Master of Fine Art and Design (Ceramic) from University of Tasmania. Srivilasa has held numerous solo and group exhibitions around Australia and in South East Asia, USA, Europe, Korea, Thailand, India and China. He is a recipient of many grants and residencies here and abroad and his art is owned by many public Australian art galleries and private collections.

Vipoo Srivilasa is represented by Anna Pappas Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
