Highlights from the MGA Collection

Coinciding with MGA’s 25th anniversary, this exhibition is a celebration of the Monash Gallery of Art, City of Monash Collection. The collection was established by the Waverley City Gallery in the 1970s, before being transferred to MGA when it was opened in 1990.

Making it modern: Wolfgang Sievers & Henry Talbot

Modernism came to Australian photography via many routes, including the migration of artists from Europe to Australia in the first half of the twentieth century. Wolfgang Sievers (1913-2007) and Henry Talbot (1920-1999) arrived separately in Australia from Germany at the beginning of the Second World War.

Wolfgang Sievers exhibition

Sievers' photographs speak of the dignity of labour and the visual beauty of the constructed world. His Gears for mining industry (1967) is a classic image in Australian art history. This exhibition of works from the 1950s to 1970s is presented by the "Graham F Smith Peace Trust":http://artspeacetrust.org/about/ in collaboration with Julian Burnside QC.
