Kate Just is an American-born Australian artist best known for elaborate knitted sculptures and mixed media installations that have included figurative and abstract representations of the body and skin, large text-works, tools, armours and knitted banners. Her central interest is the questioning and reframing of historic or iconographic representations of gender from an autobiographical, subjective or embodied perspective. Recently, Just has undertaken a range of community-engaged knitting and photographic projects in Austria, the UK and Melbourne addressing diverse issues including women’s representation in art and violence against women. In both her solo and group works, Just deploys an emphasis on making and materiality to engender ideas of intimacy with self or other, and project the idea of hope for the future.

Just is represented by Daine Singer.
