Biography

Les Joynes, (American, b, 1963) excavates and resurrects form and images into paintings, sculptures and photographs. He has exhibited at Nylon Gallery, London; Barbican Concourse Gallery, London; Mizuma Gallery, Tokyo; Romo Gallery, Atlanta; Sandra B├╝rgel Gallery, Berlin; Peer Gallery, New York; and The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.

He possesses a BA (hons) Fine Art: Central St. Martins College of Art, London; MA Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London and MA Sculpture from Musashino Art University, Tokyo where he was a Monbusho research scholar. He has a BA (cum laude) in history from Boston University and M.Sc from Boston University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.

Joynes has lectured on Japanese contemporary art developments at Otis College of Art, Los Angeles and presented at Bangkok Experimental Film Festival; and Pictura Gallery, Dordrecht, Netherlands. He has contributed to Flash Art, Springerin and Art in America. His work has appeared on NHK Television Japan, Art Monthly, Sculpture Magazine, Commons & Sense, Japan and Art Monthly, London. He is currently researching formlessness and entropy in contemporary art at Leeds School of Contemporary Art and Design in the UK.
