Wesley Stacey: The wild thing

Wesley Stacey is a living legend of environmental photography. In the 1970s he turned his back on the bright lights of Sydney and set up camp in the wilderness of the NSW south coast. For over 40 years he has lived in the ‘great outdoors’, using photography to explore and connect with the ecological complexity of the Australian landscape.

Friends & Fans: Wesley Stacey & Rennie Ellis

Two documentary-photography artists working in the nineteen-seventies explore new perspectives on the experience of festivity. Wesley Stacey took photographs at a fancy dress party in Sydney during the summer of 1972–73. Rennie Ellis documented a series of VFL grand finals at the MCG. He rarely took photographs of the game itself, preferring instead to focus on the supporters.

Brummels: Australia's first gallery of photography

Brummels was the first Australian art gallery dedicated to exhibiting the work of photographers. Opened in 1972 by photographer Rennie Ellis, above a restaurant in South Yarra, the humble exhibition space was the hub of an emerging community of art photographers.
