Stephen Bush: Steenhuffel

Steenhuffel brings together works produced over a period of more than thirty years by the internationally recognised Australian painter Stephen Bush. The exhibition presents works that characteristically combine adroit figuration and visceral abstraction, and convey a sense of existential questioning, of friction, discipline, and the notion of the sublime.

Stephen Bush, club soda unbridled

Freed from directed narratives and formal constraints, these paintings reveal the artist’s penchant for experimentation and discovery of form through process. The use of vibrant, amplified color has been a hallmark of Bush’s work for the past two decades: he has rendered, poured, and dripped paint during this period to create otherworldly scenes.
