Mike Adey is an Illustrator and painter living in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1972, Mike trained as Illustrator at the University of South Australia (1995 – 1998). After graduating with a Bachelor of Design (Illustration Design) in 1999, he moved to Melbourne, Victoria in 2001.

Mike is influenced by many of the modern artists like Picasso, Warhol, and Lichtenstein. As well as the Australian modern artists of Nolan, Tucker, Blackman and Shead. But the 1990’s Australian surf clothing brand and artwork icon “Mambo” really opened his eyes to Illustration and painting while he was at University. Mambo brought colourful, graphic and sometimes humorous ideas with an Australian touch which inspired Mike, and he thought “I can do that!”…so he did! In 2005, Mike moved away from the graphic design and illustration world and started to paint on canvas.

Since then, Mike has exhibited every year since 2007 with the Hobsons Bay City Councils “Art in Public Places” art program. In 2009 his art was judged by two guest judges from the VCA as “Highly commended”. Mike has also had successful group/solo exhibitions around Melbourne. In 2011 was the first time he exhibited overseas, in a group show
in Denmark.

Mike’s paintings are in collections in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Hobart (Australia), Singapore, Hong Kong, Aarhus (Denmark), Ventabren (France) and New York (USA).
