Lancashire-born visual artist Richard Wainman now lives and works in Carlisle, Cumbria. A recent graduate of the University of Cumbria (formerly Cumbria Institute of the Arts), Richard works in a variety of media, primarily digital video but also photography, illustration, painting and printmaking.

His interest in literature has seen work based on the writings of Simon Leys and Marcel Proust, and more recently Roger-Pol Droit and Dylan Thomas. His fascination with nostalgia and memory has manifested itself in much of his work, including recurring motifs such as ciné films and record players.

Richard is also the author of Art & Music: The Porous Wall, an inquiry into the relationship between the two art forms, exploring experimental music, performance and sculpture.

Richard is currently working on a community project based in Carlisle in collaboration with the City Council and the ‘Carlisle Renaissance’ organisation. His latest work pays tribute to children’s television, advertising and audience manipulation.
