The book aims to reinterpret the daily lives of 15 Australian native animals using detailed watercolour, pencil and gouache illustrations, complete with references to mid-century modern design and curious, scientific facts.
You’ll see the Gouldian finch family having breakfast at sunrise in their Marimekko-cushioned nest and the single kangaroo mum going shopping with her joeys at the supermarket and come home at 3 for an afternoon nap with the koalas. Through the inclusion of secondary animals and hidden clocks in each scene, children are encouraged to immerse themselves in exploring the colourful pictures. Meanwhile, hopefully adults will delight in humorous references to design icons and a loving depiction of the mixed modern family.
The Family Hour in Australia is an educational, humourous exploration of our native animal families that will appeal to toddlers, grandparents and everyone in between.
The book, and limited edition prints, can be purchased online.
