Product Details: "A brilliant pop record that pitches a brass and string-led fanfare through a Steve Reich-like repetition into a walloping great dubstep breakdown. Quite unlike anything else you are likely to hear." The Sunday Times

“Fantastic, idiosyncratic…dark and uncomfortable but ultimately joyous.”
Clash Magazine

Maverick contemporary composer Anna Meredith’s debut release combines classical motifs with experimental electronic backing, placing her in a similar vein to the likes of James Blake and These New Puritans, both of whom she’s supported on tour.

This 4-track EP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl and limited to only 300 copies worldwide, opens with the throbbing horn fanfare of ‘Nautilus’, which you can listen to here, and goes on to explore lush psychedelia and slow build, downtempo electronica across 18 minutes of inspired soundscapes.

Meredith’s groundbreaking contemporary composition in the classical music sphere prompted the Daily Telegraph to call her “one of Britain’s leading young composers,” but she has been working increasingly in the electronic arena too.

In the last year or so, Meredith has been writing and recording the songs that would become Black Prince Fury, road testing the new tracks at a handful of live shows with the likes of James Blake, These New Puritans and Mira Calix.

Black Prince Fury tracklist

4. Orca

There are few artists who can switch effortlessly between having a composition performed by the National Youth Orchestra at the BBC Proms one week, to premiering their new track on Pitchfork – whose review compared her to Bjork, These New Puritans and Planningtorock – the next. Which probably goes some way to explaining why Anna Meredith is such an exceptional talent.

This limited edition EP is available to order now, exclusively from The Vinyl Factory.
