The protagonist of Synchronised Sand is strong and determined- she is doing it!- but, what, exactly? Inhabiting a space somewhere between synchronized swimmer and pregnant turtle, she is adorned in (multiple) black fur and sparkle swimsuits, mimicking shifting skins of desert animals.
The rhythym and pace of the gestures through the sand appear at once bizarre and mesmerizing, as we wonder at the seeming futility of the figure forever entrenched in her routine. The work extends Raisin’s exploration of the environment, animality, hybridity and interconnectivity.
