A familiar sight for visitors to MGA, Lisa Young’s ‘Curlicue’ is a well-loved permanent artwork in our sculpture park.

Hugging the curves of the building since 2002, ‘Curlicue’ takes the form of a repeating decorative curl. After years of exposure to the elements, ‘Curlicue’ was in serious need of conservation and care.

In February this year we embarked on a conservation project to restore the sculpture and address areas of concern. We were incredibly grateful to receive the support of The Copland Foundation which enabled the sculpture to undergo conservation treatment to repair areas that had fallen victim to rust with a full recoat of enamel coating.

With thanks to The Copland Foundation grant, ‘Curlicue’ sees a renewed vibrancy at MGA.

You can visit the sculpture park at any time, even if the gallery is closed.
