Plein Air Juried Competition: In the Light of Day

Eligibility
All artists worldwide are eligible to enter. All entries
must be original and have been executed within the
past five years. Works must not have been
previously shown in this gallery. Acceptable media
are: Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor and Drawings.
Framed pieces must be ready for hanging, with proper
screw eyes and wire to correspond with the weight of
the art work. No sawtooth hangers or string hangers.
Two-dimensional works may not exceed 60" in height
or width including the frame, and may not weigh more
than 100 pounds. Wall pieces, other than paintings,
must be suitably mounted for Gallery exhibition. Art
work may not be removed until the end of the
exhibition. Artists are responsible for shipping and
insuring costs to and from the City of Brea Art Gallery.

Entry Fees
A $15 fee will be charged for each entry. Entrants
who live in Brea may submit one FREE entry. There is
no limit to the number of entries. Make check
payable to “City of Brea.” Entry fees are
non-refundable. This form may be photocopied as
needed. Please note that initial acceptance of a CD
does not guarantee acceptance in the exhibition.
Works that do not match the JPEG image in content
or quality or do not adhere to the conditions of entry
may be declined when received.

Juror Mr. Jean Stern
A recognized authority of California Impressionism,
Jean Stern has extensive experience in the field as
author, curator, lecturer, and teacher. He has been
the executive director of the Irvine Museum since its
inception in January, 1993. Mr. Stern has written
several books and articles and has also published
many essays for numerous books and museum
exhibition catalogues. His expertise and knowledge
on the subject should provide an excellent
perspective of jurying this exhibit.

Entry and Submission Rules
Only one JPEG image per work need be submitted.
All images must be
submitted on a CD
in JPEG format
with an image
size no greater
than 6" in any
one direction based
on proportions. A
maximum of 300 dpi file
resolution is an acceptable quality of image. If you
are submitting multiple entries, please submit them
on a single disc. The disc must be labeled with the
artists first and last name and the title of each image.
Unacceptable Entries Include:
a) Wet or ill-prepared works
b) Works or frames which are unstable
c) Works with unprotected surfaces that smear or
damage easily
d) Damaged or cracked works

Sales
Unless otherwise specified, works will be considered
for sale at the price indicated and 30% of the selling
price will be retained by the City of Brea Art Gallery.
A purchaser may not remove work until the end of
the exhibition.
Insurance
The City of Brea assumes no responsibility for loss,
theft or damage to any CD or the artwork associated
with it prior to its acceptance into the show. Works
accepted into the show will be insured by the City of
Brea while in the Gallery’s possession only. Insuring
the artwork during transit to and from the gallery is
the responsibility of the artist. The insurance value is
determined to be 70% of the sale price, the same
amount the artist would receive if the work had sold.
Artwork damaged due to poor craftsmanship,
insufficient hanging apparatus, compromised
integrity or assembly, or poor framing is not covered
by the Gallery’s insurance.

26th Annual Made In California Juried Exhibition and Sale

The City of Brea Art Gallery’s 26th Annual Made in California Exhibition is an open juried competition.

All artists residing in California are eligible to enter. All entries must be original and have been executed within the past two years. Works must not have been shown previously in this Gallery. Media: oil, watercolor, acrylic, drawings, mixed media, graphics, photography, video and sculptures (50 lbs. or under). Please no crafts or functional art.

Attention Artists!

The City of Brea Art Gallery is producing an exhibition entitled “For Love or Money” featuring artwork from artists who work by day work as hired hands for design companies, advertising agencies, etc., yet by night exercise personal creative outlets.

“For Love or Money” will showcase work from both aspects of the artist’s career, with examples of personal art contrasted with their “for the money” work.

We are seeking submission from interested artists to be reviewed for inclusion. There is no entry fee; submissions will be judged by the merit of the work alone.

Entry Deadline : July 15, 2009
Exhibition Dates : August 1 – September 11
Entry information: We are seeking all media : oil, watercolor, drawing, mixed media, photography, video, sculpture, spoken word, and performance. Entries may be submitted via CD or e-mail; Artwork : jpegs with image size of 4”x 5” , max of 300 dpi file resolution. Each jpeg file must be named with the artist last name and title of artwork. Spoken Word : recordings should be submitted in standard AIFF or mp3 formats. Video and videos of Performance Art : standard DVD or QuickTime format.

Multiple entries on CD/DVD should be submitted on a single disc. Disc must be labeled with the artist’s full name and titled with artwork name. CD/DVD submissions should be sent to : City of Brea Art Gallery, 1 Civic Center Circle, Brea, Ca 92821. Attn: For Love or Money.
